Lande the Calais Jungle and Beyond Exhibition

Pleased to be showing some of my photographs from the Calais Jungle eviction alongside video reportage from Jason Parkinson in the Long Gallery photo exhibition at the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford.

Opening event on 15th June, exhibition runs till the 29th November 2019.

PROGRAMME

WEDNESDAY 5TH JUNE 12PM – 6PM

12pm – Talk by Grattan Puxon.
A veteran campaigner for Traveller rights, Grattan Puxon has an extensive archive that is now housed at the Bishopsgate Institute. His archive material from the 10-year legal struggle at Dale Farm forms part of the TEX installation.

12.30pm – Press tour

1pm – Discussion with Jacob Willis.
Jacob Willis was an activist present at Dale Farm and was arrested at the time of the eviction. He will be speaking about his experience of this historic struggle where activists and others stood alongside the Travellers of Dale Farm.

1.15pm – Phein O’Reachtigan. Dale Farm: The Eviction.
Phien O’Reachtigan was born into a Pavee Traveller family in England.  Following site evictions, he became a community activist and advocate speaking at conferences and demonstrations. Phien has contributed a collection of his artwork and artefacts retrieved from the Dale Farm eviction site and has curated the work of the artists who will contribute to the project.

1.30pm – 2pm – Performance/ Roundtable.
A round table discussion will invite visitors to talk about Dale Farm and the legal struggles of Travellers around eviction taking inspiration from the Traveller women who in 2011 invited politicians to join them outside the High Court of Justice to negotiate rather than engage in a violent eviction.

2pm – Meet the curators and team.
The curators will speak about what led them to develop this project from the points of view of a Traveller and activist. As artists they will explore how art is able to convey a powerful message and open up discussion around the land rights of the Traveller community and the discrimination that they have faced over many generations.

2.30pm – Archive room tour of artefacts from The Grattan Puxon Archive and Bishopsgate Institute.

3pm – Schools/College visits.

3.30 – Performance – by Lucy McMahon and dance troupe.
A performance exploring the territory between politics, performance and audience in this work that utilises footage from the Dale Farm eviction and unique artefacts from the project space.

4pm – Photo opportunity for general public on the Dale Farm barricades.

THURSDAY 6TH JUNE 12PM-6PM

12pm – Schools / college visits (talk, tour and activity). *

3pm – College visits. *

4pm – Performance by Lucy McMahon and dance troupe.

Singer ‘Moonview”; an eco-activist will perform a piece in response to his experience at Dale Farm in 2011.

FRIDAY 7TH JUNE 12PM-6PM

12pm Midday – Visitors and discussions (tbc).

1pm – Discussion about human rights with Marc Willers.
Human rights Lawyer, Marc Willers will speak about his experience of defending Travellers against discrimination in a number of successful legal struggles. Fundamental problems that Travellers’ face legally when planning laws and other agencies fail to recognise their rights as a unique ethnic minority will be discussed.

4pm – Performance by Lucy McMahon and dance troupe.
A performance exploring the territory between politics, performance and audience in this work that utilises footage from the Dale Farm eviction and unique artefacts from the project space.

7pm – Opening event by invitation only.

SATURDAY 8TH JUNE 12PM-10PM

12pm – Performance/ Roundtable.
A round table discussion will invite visitors to talk about Dale Farm and the legal struggles of Travellers around eviction taking inspiration from the Traveller women who in 2011 invited politicians to join them outside the High Court of Justice to negotiate rather than engage in a violent eviction.

2pm – Performance by Lucy McMahon and Dance troupe with music by Pavee Band.

3pm – Invited speaker – Legal/Press/discussion (tbc).

4pm – Archive room tour.

5pm – Performance by Lucy McMahon and Dance troupe.

7pm – Performance.
