Haiti Earthquake – 2nd Anniversary

Two years ago the earthquake in Haiti devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. We mark that day to remember the dead, but also the continued suffering of the living.

My eyewitness account..

“It’s worse than a war zone,” says Jordy Cox, an American surgeon and volunteer for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). She has just performed an operation in an outdoor makeshift theatre to save the arm of a 22 year old girl.

Alphonse Edwards, an American medic and volunteer, has been helping near the airport. “We were losing ten people a day, having to amputate without anesthetic or antibiotics,” he said. “The supplies I brought were used up the first afternoon. “We had no bandages, we were using rocks and sticks for splints with no tape to bind them.” (more…)

2011 End of Year Slideshow

2011 was a year of riots and revolutions. I’ve put together a 150 sec review of a crazy year…Beginning with the Egyptian Revolution, austerity protests in Athens, Madrid and London…Slutwalk, UK riots, Occupy LSX, the Dale Farm traveller eviction & more. Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me through an at times traumatic, but inspiring year x

Dale Farm Eviction

It has been a real privilege to document the Dale farm community over the past few years and share the joy and the sorrow at family events, on the protests and barricades. I will cherish the generosity and warmth shown to me at times of great emotional upset.

I hope the long battle against this eviction will mark in history a turning point, an end to the casual racism and vicious discrimination against travellers, gypsies and their way of life.

Carlo Giuliani RIP

Ten years ago today I took this image of 23 year old Carlo Giuliani. He was shot through the head and run over twice by Italian riot police during anti capitalist protests at the Genoa G8 summit in Italy.

The summer of 2001 had a massive impact on me and everyone involved. Our thoughts are with Carlo’s family and friends who have fought a long campaign for justice.
